1. Take the Decision
Your decision to become a pilot must be taken very carefully, as it includes a massive investment of time and money. Also, you need to study a lot and work hard to get success as a pilot, and if you are passionate and willing to put all your efforts then only you should opt out for a career as an Airline pilot. There are limited jobs and opportunities in this field; age is an essential factor because in some countries you cannot fly and get your license before turning 18, whereas as in some countries you can start flying and get a Private Pilot License when you are 17.
2. The Medical
Getting a medical certificate is very important, as you need to physically and mentally fit to operate an Aircraft, now the requirements to obtain a medical license might vary from country to country, like the requirements of FAA might be a little different than CAA, but they all have the category of
– Class III medical
– Class II medical
– Class, I medical
To become an Airline pilot you need to have a class I medical which includes checking vision, heart, blood, general diseases; you can not have any significant issues like kidney problems, etc.
You need to get your medical renewed at regular intervals of 1 year or 6 months, depending on the regulations and age.
There is a misconception that if a person has color blindness, that a lot of males have, they can not get the medical certificate, They will undergo an individual test, and if they have safe color blindness, they can obtain class I medical and proceed to their training.

3. Selecting the Aviation School
Aviation School depends on the choices available in your country or region, and if you want to study abroad, then you must check which license is that particular flying school providing. Like you can fly in the U.S.A with an FAA license, but with the same license, you might not have the permission to work in the U.K.
You need to look what the school is providing you, some give degree, diploma and some just grant the license, School is vital because some airlines will directly hire you if you have the degree from a particular school. Budget and time are other important things to look out for, Completing flying hours is cheaper in South Africa, and in the U.K it might be costly. The primary expense is by completing flying hours, so look at what schools are offering and compare the prices and make a wise decision. There are some Cadet programs as well
4. Look for the Airline
After completing the training, obtaining your Class I medical certificate you get your license. You should know what license you have got so that you can understand to which airlines you have the eligibility to apply. Some airlines will take the money and give you training, like if an airline takes you as an ab-initio. Some airlines will ask you to do special training like flight simulator training; they say that they will give you training, once you join you will go under a different level of training, simulator training, ground training that is required to operate on the line
5. Keep Researching
The time you are studying you can go to Canada and practice in winter because the weather is very tough, Basically, Pilot training is a commercial thing, bargain at flying schools, ask around, look for the offers, it’s not the end of the world, see what school will give you the lowest price.
